Oh Raleigh !

My dear Raleigh, you never cease to amaze me!

The vast green expanse I see and the serene lakeside escapes you present before me, just take my breath away. How can a city be so beautiful and calm, yet full of life with all its hustle and bustle!

Walking out of the airport on that chilly december night, I had not expected spring to beckon such lush greenery to line the tar carpets that led us to our first abode after marriage.

My first morning with you, I saw pine trees from my patio just as the ones that lined my bedroom window in Nainital, (a popular Indian hill station, tucked away in the foothills of the outer Himalayas)  and it suddenly felt like home.

I was curious about you Raleigh, whether your winters were harsh or your summers were long. I guess I wanted to come prepared and boy was I delighted to make your acquaintance! You mesmerized me with your changing seasons, the sudden freshness of green leaves and white flowers in spring, the crisp summer sun, the multi-colored landscapes of autumn. The cherry on top was just the right amount of snow to have fun filled snow fights !!

You provide something for everyone the food connoisseurs and pub hoppers have a new fun place to explore ever so often in your downtown. One can’t stop praising the sumptuous meals at Bida Manda, Garland, Sitti or an entertaining drink at Rum Runner’s, or Raleigh Beer garden. Shoppers of every type the big retail fans and flea market explorers all have sufficient places to entice them. You can spend your morning hunting down bargains at antique stores or relax in the number of spa options all in a day’s work.

The art and music scene is exploding with new and old talents. There are multiple live music events and concerts organized all year round. The museums in this city have something to offer to everyone from ages 5 to 50! The various events and festivities simply blew my mind.

This is a paradise for runners and hikers with multiple trails to hike or bike. The number of parks in your vicinity is simply exhaustive. Every time I think I have visited most of them, a new one adds to the list.

Be it a lazy day at the lake or breaking a sweat with a kayak you just have every scope of fun encompassed within your natures bounty.

Raleigh, my words do no justice to all that you entail, you are not just a place to stay, you are an experience… a gift of Mother Nature wrapped with a bow!

For me, you are my inspiration, my muse, my abode.
